Of special note is how Savoury Chef accommodated a variety of dietary restrictions among our attendees. The Chef carefully listened to our requirements and did not skip a beat in ensuring that gluten-free, dairy-free and other dietary options were available to each one of our guests who required them. As a result, we could all relax and enjoy the day! Savoury Chef’s gluten-free “quinoa cakes” are not to be missed as an example of a truly west-coast inspired taste experience. It was predictable and unfortunate though, that I didn’t get to eat at all. I literally had a rice ball and some scallops. I never even made it to the legendary gnocchi that everyone was raving about! However, my lack of dining was not due to the lack of effort on the part of your staff. They took good care of us, but I was simply too busy socializing.
I also want to thank your team for the little peripheral bits that they paid attention to. This gave Kasey and I the piece of mind we needed going into the wedding and even post event.

We chatted about service styles that would suit the guests and wedding vibe best and we opted for “Family Style”. Large serving dishes were brought to the tables and guests were able to help themselves to an array of local, fresh delights. This service style felt homey and comfortable, while still being unique and elegant. The service staff on the day were incredible. As the planner, I had many guests come up to me and comment on what a professional, delightful, fun staff we had on hand. Food was very important to this client as most of their guests were coming from out of town and they wanted to showcase some of BC’s wonderful cuisine but with an Asian fusion. Right from the tasting, the clients were smitten with the food that was presented. The Chef ’s Miso Chili Black Cod with zucchini spaghetti was so luscious & flavorful and the Crispy Confit Duck Leg was unlike anything we’d ever tasted. We knew that come the day, the guests were going to be experiencing an incredible menu that was sure to satisfy not only their palettes but their eyes as well.
Working with the Savoury Chef Foods team during the planning of this wedding was smooth as it always is. They are organized, efficient and always pleasant to deal with. This particular event took place at Van Dusen Gardens so the Savoury Chef Foods team was working with an off-site kitchen but you wouldn’t have known it. The food that came out of there was exceptional. As we mingled with our guests, we put our plate of food down to take pictures. Next thing we knew, someone had stolen our plate of food. I couldn’t believe it! I guess it looked too enticing and someone just couldn’t resist. From the minute we started wedding planning, it was a priority that our wedding was fun with an abundance of delectable food and drinks. From the Savoury Chef website we knew they had the style and inspiring menu that we were looking for, but when we met the Savoury Chef team at the first tasting, we knew they were “the one.” We couldn’t have asked for a better combination with the Chef’s creative and delicious food and the team’s organization and incredible wealth of knowledge… and the fact that they are just great people.
They provided fantastic insight from creating our perfect menu, to the rentals, to the bar and so much more. Let me also add that my side of the family are very “Chinese” in that the only thing they really care about is the food. You should know that in their 70+ years of individual experiences, my uncles and aunts said that was the best wedding food they’ve ever had. The short ribs were a particular favourite and everyone was trying to figure out how you managed to cook it so well, given that you were set up in a classroom! Guests also actually thought we had twice the number of servers because they were so attentive and the canapes were a huge hit.
So thanks very much again. We’re sorry that we didn’t make it back into your ‘kitchen’ to say hello. It really would’ve been cool to see how you had setup. Everything went perfectly for us and we couldn’t be more pleased.
